Frank Davis – Legion of Honour
Frank Davis, 93, was presented his medal, rank of Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour, by Ontario Command’s vice chair Ron Goebel at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 240 in Almonte on November 8th at the Remembrance Day Dinner. Frank enlisted in The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa on Sept. 4, 1939 as a young man of 20. Frank was assigned to Headquarters Company as a drummer with the regimental pipe band and on June 7, 1944, Headquarters Company landed in Normandy. “Frank, we are here tonight to honour you as the longest serving member of Branch 240,” immediate past president John Souter said. In front of a capacity crowd he received his 70-year service pin from the branch honours and award chair Matt Carson. “Thank you,” he said. “This makes me very happy.” Frank was a founding member of the Branch 240 Almonte Pipe Band and though he might be slowing down a bit, but he’s not done yet. Last year on Nov. 11 he was in Pakenham playing the drum roll at the Remembrance Day service.
