Pte Claude Nunney VC, DCM, MM
On September 1-2 Maj (ret’d) Roger Laplante, 2Lt Alexandre Leger, Cpl David Harding and Cpl Afton Maisonneuve will be representing the Regimental Family in France at services commemorating the awarding of the Victoria Cross to Pte Nunney of the 38th Bn CEF, a predecessor unit of the Camerons.
The village of Vis-en-Artois, where Pte Nunney earned his VC, are dedicating a portion of the highway which was the centre of the axis of advance for the 38th “Canada’s Highway of Heroes/Voie Sacree du Canada”. In addition, the village is naming a small square “Place du 38Bn FEC” and erecting a plaque there in Pte Nunney’s honour.
The party will be visiting Pte Nunney’s grave as well as other cemeteries where members of the 38th are buried. As well they will be visiting Vimy, Passchendaele and Ypres.
